Test Scope |
Includes concentration of material and examination of specimen for ova and parasite by conventional iodine/saline and Trichrome staining. This will not detect Cryptosporidium, Cyclospora or Microsporidium. |

- Stool or Sputum Sample: Two vial kit with 10% Formalin and PVA (Deposit stool sample in each container)
- Urine Sample: Use standard urine cup with screw cap and collect sample at mid-day.

Label container with patient’s first and last name, DOB and date/time of collection. |
Special Instructions |
- Stool specimens should be put into the two vials immediately after passage and thoroughly mixed with the solution up to the fill line.
- Multiple specimens should be collected on separate days. At least 3 specimens, one sample collected every 48 hours for a period of 5-6 days. Label and date each specimen as collected.
- DO NOT refrigerate the samples, store at room temperature
- Consult the microbiology department for handling of samples other than stool.
- Include any pertinent clinical and travel history on the test requisition.
