Gerontology Academic Program (GAP)
Offering outstanding gerontology education to complement any major
The Gerontology Academic Program (GAP) leads the development of gerontology education at the University of Nevada, Reno. The GAP seeks to be recognized as a national leader and premier learning site for undergraduates, graduate students and professional providers interested in the field of aging.
Explore our courses:
- Gerontology certificate: Required and elective courses for the 24-unit gerontology certificate (2019-2020). The certificate program was approved in 1989.
- Minor in gerontology: Requirements for 18-unit gerontology minor (2019-2020). The minor program was approved in 1991.
Faculty mentoring fosters student research, critical thinking and practical application of theoretical knowledge, while supporting student scholars to enter a variety of rewarding careers in the field of aging. Knowledge of aging also better prepares a student for any career choice.
In collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Gerontology Curriculum Committee (IGCC), GAP provides up-to-date knowledge on the biological, physiological, communicative, psychological and social aspects of aging.
Both the Minor in Gerontology and the Gerontology Certificate are designated as "Programs of Merit" by the Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education, making UNR one of only 12 universities nationwide to receive this honor.
