New Educational Offerings

Expand your knowledge with our free Geriatric Lecture Series, designed for healthcare professionals, caregivers and community members. These expert-led workshops cover a variety of topics to help you better understand and support aging adults. Select sessions also offer continuing education credits. 

Geriatric Lecture Series: Discovering Tools for Better Communication and Empathy

Tuesday, September 8, 2026 | 2-4 p.m. PDT | Zoom Program

This FREE program will:

  • Explain the difference between empathy and sympathy, and how setting clear emotional boundaries prevents burnout
  • Demonstrate "I" statements instead of "You" statements to lower conflict, set boundaries, and reduce workplace stress
  • Describe active listening that allows you to connect with patients effectively without draining your emotional energy
  • Identify the early signs of compassion fatigue and apply practical tools to protect your well-being

Continuing Education Units (CEUs): This program has been submitted to the Nevada State Boards of Examiners for Long-Term Care Administrators and Social Workers for 2.0 CEUs. Sanford Center for Aging is awaiting provider status to offer CEUs for Nurses. Check the NGEC website for updates to our policies.

Interprofessional Certificate in Geriatric Care

Learn how to apply the 4Ms framework (what matters, medication, mentation and mobility) of age-friendly health systems to offer better care to your patients and advance in your career! This certificate is offered online and at your own pace with select opportunities for interactive/interdisciplinary volunteer patient simulation.

 At this time, the certificate is offered to graduate-level students and faculty. For consideration of this certificate and to learn if you qualify, please contact the Nevada Geriatric Education Center. 

Improving the Care of Elders through Community and Academic Partnerships (ICECAP)

This interprofessional geriatrics education network offers training and resources for primary care teams and family caregivers. The network is a partnership among academia, clinical sites and community services that trains current and future providers to assess and address the primary care needs of older adults by transforming clinical training environments to support age-friendly health care.
