Overview

Dr. Bret Frey, MD, and Shannon Beets will explore practical strategies for strengthening evaluative feedback for medical students in the clinical learning environment. This session will address common challenges faculty encounter when writing meaningful evaluative comments and highlight approaches for overcoming these barriers. Participants will discuss ways to efficiently capture observations and develop descriptive, actionable feedback that supports learner growth and provides useful information for both students and course directors.

Learning Objectives

Following participation in this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss ideas for how to overcome common struggles for writing evaluative comments about medical students
  • Develop ways to find time to write descriptive and actionable comments along with strategies to take notes to individualize feedback
  • Discuss the best practices for writing descriptive and actionable feedback that can be shared with course directors or students
