Acceptance Protocols for Admitted Students

Upon admission to UNR Med, applicants will receive instructions on how to accept UNR Med’s offer of admission and information on how to submit a scholarship application and a list of pre-matriculation tasks to complete including a background check and immunizations.

Applicants to UNR Med agree to adhere to AAMC Application and Acceptance Protocols, commonly known as the AAMC traffic rules.  This includes using the AMCAS Choose Your Medical School (CYMS) tools by the deadlines listed below and promptly withdrawing offer(s) of admission from any medical school(s) you are no longer actively considering.

Important Dates

February 19 (or upon admission): Admitted applicants use the CYMS tool to designate the medical school where they "Plan to Enroll". 

Note: Designating a school as where you "Plan to Enroll" does not commit you to attend that school, nor does it require you to withdraw from other schools where you hold acceptances. However, if you are no longer actively considering attending a medical school where you hold an acceptance, please send a written notification (email) and withdraw your seat so that an alternate can be offered admission to medical school.

April 30: Applicants holding multiple seats must withdraw all but one acceptance offer and be designated in CYMS as either "Plan to Enroll" or "Commit to Enroll" at one medical school based upon the following:

• • If an applicant intends to matriculate at UNR Med, the applicant will withdraw any waitlist or acceptance offers from all other schools and update their CYMS status to "Commit to Enroll".
• • Applicants who intend to matriculate at UNR Med, but who are alternatives at other schools, may leave their status with UNR Med as "Plan to Enroll" until June 15 but should withdraw acceptances offers from other schools.
• • Applicants who no longer intend to matriculate at UNR Med are asked to send an email withdrawing their offer to officeofadmissions@med.unr.edu on or before May 1 and if necessary, should update their CYMS status.

June 15: After June 15, any applicant with a UNR Med acceptance offer who has not updated their CYMS status to “Commit to Enroll” may be administratively withdrawn and their seat offered to a waitlist alternate.

How to Withdraw your Acceptance

To decline UNR Med’s offer of admission, please update CYMS and email the officeofadmissions@med.unr.edu. Your prompt withdraw notification will allow an alternate on the waitlist to receive an offer of admission.

How to Request to Defer your Admission Offer

Requests for a one-year deferral of enrollment are considered on a case-by-case basis upon receipt of a brief email outlining the circumstances for the request. Please send to officeofadmissions@med.unr.edu with “Defer Request” in the subject line.
