We are pleased that you are considering our programs and interested in becoming part of Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med). It is a wonderful time to be in Psychiatry, especially at UNR Med as we reimagine healthcare and physician practice to improve the health and wellbeing of the community. The Psychiatry Department, Psychiatry Residency, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship are essential components of this initiative with residents and fellows being core members of the team. The training programs are looking for residents and fellows who are enthusiastic, motivated, and passionate about psychiatry. Our residents represent the community and prioritize improving access to care and mental health treatment for all who need it.

Our programs offer a range of activities associated with a diverse set of clinical institutions that provide a challenging, comprehensive, and stimulating educational experience. There is a strong emphasis on prevention, early intervention, community-based experiences, outpatient work, and comprehensive care. The region offers the opportunity to work with urban, suburban, and rural populations within the same region.

This educational experience is designed to produce resilient, capable, empathetic psychiatrists who are passionate about caring for children, adolescents, adults, and families as clinicians, teachers, researchers, and advocates. The curriculum prioritizes the acquisition and application of knowledge and skills integrated across the biological, psychological, and social domains of psychiatric practice. While participating in foundational training experiences, there are multiple opportunities for residents to participate in the development and implementation of educational, clinical, and scholarly programming as well as tailored experiences focused on their interests. Being a medium sized program ensures that residents and faculty know each other well, work closely together, and are part of a supportive, engaged, and inclusive group.

UNR Med and Renown Health are clinical partners. Learn more about Renown Health and Renown Regional Medical Center.

Both the Psychiatry Residency program and the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship are accredited by the American Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
