We produce resilient, capable and empathetic psychiatrists
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is dedicated to providing the highest level of evidence-based psychiatric treatment to our community. We are dedicated to developing the next generation of psychiatrists through our Psychiatry Residency and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship programs. Our training focuses on teaching and preparing future psychiatrists to treat patients through an individualized treatment plan while integrating biomedical and psychosocial approaches into patient care. We aim to provide high-quality comprehensive patient care to individuals in Reno, Tahoe, and the surrounding Northern Nevada area.
Mission
The mission of the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine includes a commitment to education and training of health care professionals. The Department of Psychiatry contributes to the fulfillment of this mission by training the next generation of psychiatrists through our Psychiatry Residency and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship training programs. The Department of Psychiatry provides education and training in the urban and rural areas of Northern Nevada. In support of the educational mission, the department pursues research and provides comprehensive clinical services. The department also integrates medical student education into its clinical and academic activities to provide a first-class learning environment for future physicians.
Diversity
Our department is focused on creating and supporting a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is vital to our success as we train the next generation of psychiatrists. The strength of our community lies in its individuals and the diversity of those individuals. As a department, we take a stand against racism. Racism affects the physical and mental health of many people in our community and we need to fight against racial inequalities and discrimination.
