Resources
UNR Med is committed to supporting our residents with the resources needed to ensure a successful and rewarding experience over the duration of your training.
Handbook
The Resident Handbook outlines the policies and procedures of the residency program. Residents are expected to comply with these policies to ensure that all residents are working in a fair, supportive and equitable environment.
Curriculum
The Internal Medicine Residency Program offers a 4+2 block schedule, with four weeks of inpatient services followed by two weeks of outpatient medicine. This schedule offers the best of both worlds, allowing our residents to maintain work-life balance while participating in robust inpatient and outpatient clinical training. Additional benefits include predictable block schedules, regular non-clinical “golden” weekends and a solid representation of the training required to become a well-rounded physician.
As you rotate through various clinical sites, you will have the chance to experience a diverse set of patients and illnesses to enhance your knowledge and decision-making abilities. Our primary teaching hospitals are Renown Regional Health and the VA Sierra Nevada health care system. Residents receive dedicated training in core sub-specialties under the mentorship of our talented and compassionate faculty.
Thursday afternoons are dedicated for teaching time in various subjects including Grand Rounds, journal club, board reviews and other relevant subjects. Residents have the opportunity to participate in guest rotations at other institutions and also have the option to complete a dedicated research rotation.
Scholarly activity
At UNR Med, we believe that research is a critical part of medicine, allowing physicians to provide high-quality and evidence-based care to their patients. The Internal Medicine Residency Program offers several opportunities for research, including basic science, clinically-oriented studies and quality improvement (QI) projects. As a resident, you will have dedicated research and QI time as part of our continuity clinic rotations. Two-week or one-month-long research electives are also available for senior residents.
