Upon being admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med), you will receive detailed instructions on how to accept our offer, how to apply for scholarships, and a list of pre-matriculation tasks. These tasks include completing a background check and submitting required immunization records.
AAMC application and acceptance protocols
As an admitted student, you agree to follow the AAMC Application and Acceptance Protocols (commonly known as the AAMC traffic rules). This involves using the AMCAS Choose Your Medical School (CYMS) tools by the specified deadlines and promptly withdrawing from any medical schools where you are no longer considering attending.
Important dates
- February 19 (or upon admission): Use the CYMS tool to designate UNR Med as the school where you "Plan to Enroll." This designation does not commit you to attend UNR Med, nor does it require you to withdraw from other schools. However, if you are no longer considering other schools, please send an email to officeofadmissions@med.unr.edu and withdraw your seat to allow other applicants to fill the spot.
- April 30: Applicants with multiple offers must withdraw from all but one medical school. Update your CYMS status to either "Plan to Enroll" or "Commit to Enroll" at the school you intend to attend.
- If you plan to attend UNR Med, withdraw any other offers and update your CYMS status to "Commit to Enroll."
- If you plan to attend UNR Med but are waitlisted at other schools, you may keep your status at UNR Med as "Plan to Enroll" until June 15. However, you should withdraw from other schools.
- If you decide not to attend UNR Med, email us at officeofadmissions@med.unr.edu by May 1 to withdraw your offer, and update your CYMS status accordingly.
- June 15: Any applicant who has not updated their CYMS status to "Commit to Enroll" by this date may have their acceptance withdrawn and their spot offered to a waitlisted candidate.
How to withdraw your acceptance
To decline UNR Med’s offer, please update your status in CYMS and send an email to officeofadmissions@med.unr.edu. Prompt withdrawal will allow an alternate on the waitlist to receive an offer.
How to request a deferral
Requests for a one-year deferral of enrollment are considered on a case-by-case basis. Please email officeofadmissions@med.unr.edu with “Defer Request” in the subject line, outlining your circumstances.
