Family Medicine Residency Program
Why UNR Med?
The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) Family Medicine Residency Program offers robust training opportunities in all aspects of family medicine. This program is ideal for residents who are interested in pursuing a broad scope of practice or who want to tailor their training to specific subspecialties. As a community-based program, you will work closely with faculty, residents and medical professionals to learn the skills needed to offer the highest quality care to patients. You will also have the opportunity to work with medical students, enhancing your leadership and teaching abilities.
This program seamlessly blends academic rigor with direct experience to offer an all-encompassing learning environment. We emphasize collaborative learning, where residents will not compete for cases. This ensures that you will leave this program with an extensive knowledge of family medicine and diagnostics.
At the heart of the residency program is the Family Medicine Center (FMC), which is located at the University Health building. The FMC contains a fully-equipped minor surgery room, resident work area, laboratory, x-ray and ultrasound machine. During the first year, you will train at both the Ioannis Lougaris VA Medical Center and Renown Regional Medical Center. During the second and third year, you will spend the majority of your time in the ambulatory setting, both at the FMC and in private offices.
Salary Schedule
UNR Med deeply values our residents’ commitment by offering competitive salary and benefits packages. With no state income tax, Nevada residents can expect to receive a higher net salary compared to resident programs in other states.
Resources
UNR Med is committed to supporting our residents with the resources needed to ensure a successful and rewarding experience over the duration of your training.
