Graduate Medical Education application information

Are you ready to apply to a supportive and comprehensive residency program at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med)? To apply, please submit an application through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS). All of our residency positions are filled using the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP)

ERAS required documentation

Postgraduate year 1 (PGY1)

  • Personal statement
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Dean's letter (MSPE)
  • Official copy of your transcript
  • At least three (3) letters of recommendation from physicians who have supervised you in a clinical setting
  • COMLEX/USMLE transcripts

Postgraduate year 2 (PGY2) and above

  • Personal statement
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Dean's letter (MSPE)
  • Official copy of your transcript
  • At least three (3) letters of recommendation from physicians who have supervised you in a clinical setting
  • COMLEX/USMLE transcripts
  • Certificate(s) of previous training
  • Medical school diploma

Fellowship

  • Personal statement
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Dean's letter (optional)
  • Official copy of your transcript
  • At least three (3) letters of recommendation from physicians who have supervised you in a clinical setting

  • Certificate(s) of previous training

  • Recommendation letter from current program director

Additional application requirements

  • Be a U.S. citizen or have a Green Card
  • Be able to qualify for a Nevada State license at the close of residency
  • Passport-sized photo

Program specific application requirements

Family Medicine Residency Program

  • Pass Step 3 within seven years of taking Step 1 
  • Have a passing USLME Step II-CK score to be ranked 
  • Have graduated from medical school less than three years ago and, if from a foreign medical school, from a reputable medical school that our staff is familiar with 
  • Interviews are conducted remotely on Thursday afternoons and Friday mornings 

Internal Medicine Residency Program

  • Have a passing USMLE Step II-CS and USLME Step II-CK score to be ranked 
  • Have graduated medical school within the last five years 
  • Program director’s letter is required for all applicants with previous residency training in the U.S. 
  • International medical graduates must have an ECFMG certificate by the start of residency 
  • Applications are accepted and reviewed September through January 
  • Interviews take place from November through January, conducted remotely on Thursday afternoons and Friday mornings 

Pediatrics Residency Program

  • Have a passing USMLE Step II-CS or COMLEX Level II-CE score to be ranked 
  • Have graduated medical school within the last five years 
  • Program director’s letter is required for all applicants with previous residency training in the U.S. 
  • International medical graduates must have an ECFMG certificate by the start of residency 
  • Applications are accepted and reviewed September through January 
  • Candidates that have been selected to interview will be notified and scheduled through Thalamus, with interviews taking place from October through January 

Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Residency Program

  • Have a passing USMLE Step II-CS or COMLEX Level II-CE score to be ranked 
  • Have graduated medical school within the last three years 
  • International medical graduates must have an ECFMG certificate by the start of residency 
  • Applications are accepted and reviewed September through January 
  • Interviews take place from October through February
