Medical Laboratory Science Program Curriculum

The University of Nevada, Reno Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Certificate Program is a 12-month, three-semester professional program beginning each spring semester and continuing through the summer and fall semesters.

Didactic coursework and selected laboratory instruction are delivered online using a combination of asynchronous learning activities, virtual simulations, case studies, and other instructional technologies that provide students with a strong theoretical foundation in clinical laboratory science.

During the Clinical I and Clinical II practicum courses, students are assigned to affiliated clinical laboratories where they apply knowledge gained in the classroom and develop entry-level competency in all major areas of the medical laboratory. Under the supervision of qualified clinical faculty and laboratory professionals, students perform progressively more complex testing, demonstrate technical proficiency, apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and develop the professional behaviors expected of an entry-level Medical Laboratory Scientist.
