Global Health Scholarly Concentration
The Scholarly Concentration in Global Health at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) is focused on collaborative, longitudinal work with partners both domestically and worldwide, with a focus on global health.
The goals of the scholastic program are to:
- Engage in both domestic and international global health research with the goal of influencing health policy at the state, national and international levels. The program will begin with domestic initiatives while establishing collaborations with international partners.
- Develop a lecture series for first- and second-year medical students (MS1 and MS2) featuring speakers from both domestic and international backgrounds with expertise in global health policy and research.
- Establish longitudinal research projects that can be continued and expanded upon by future student cohorts.
- Pursue and secure state, national and international grant funding to support program initiatives.
- Award graduating fourth-year medical students (MS4) with a certificate of completion recognizing their participation and achievement in the program.

Students will develop a project proposal addressing a global health issue of interest in collaboration with a mentor and partner organization. The proposal should include a defined timeline, a longitudinal component, and clear objectives, with the ultimate goal of presenting or publishing the project at a domestic or international global health conference.
