Interprofessional Education Scholarly Concentration
The Scholarly Concentration in Interprofessional Education (SCIPE) offers students an opportunity to develop leadership skills while addressing the health care needs of rural and underserved populations. This concentration combines hands-on community projects, didactic sessions, and clinical experiences to enhance knowledge in interprofessional core competencies, patient safety, behavioral health integration, cultural humility and practice transformation. By fostering interprofessional collaboration, the SCIPE prepares students to meet the complex needs of diverse populations and patients in Nevada. Participants will also participate in the Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Scholars program, gaining access to additional resources that enrich both their clinical and didactic learning experiences.
What will students learn about in this program?
- Interprofessional teamwork and collaborative health care practices
- Behavioral health integration and social determinants of health
- Cultural competency and patient-centered care
- Leadership development in rural and underserved communities
- Telehealth and population health practices
- Practice transformation and health care innovation
- Communication across diverse health care disciplines
Students will also have the opportunity to attend a national IPE conference and Nevada Rural Health Day. Additionally, through this concentration, students with intermediate-level Spanish proficiency have the option to participate in a fully funded Medical Spanish course, allowing them to gain Qualified Bilingual Staff (QBS) certification or go on to be certified as a medical interpreter, further enhancing their ability to serve diverse populations.
