M.D. Application
UNR Med employs a mission-focused, competency-based admissions process, but still must meet minimum GPA and MCAT requirements for applications to be eligible for review.
Future coursework may be used to satisfy prerequisite requirements if completed by the spring term prior to matriculation. If you are offered admission, then you must provide final official transcripts demonstrating successful completion of all prerequisite coursework.
AP credit is accepted for prerequisite requirements.
Yes. Prerequisite courses completed at institutions that use a quarter-hour system are accepted. Courses awarded 2.7 quarter credits will satisfy UNR Med's 3.0-credit prerequisite course requirement.
Yes. UC Berkeley's combined General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry sequence, including associated laboratory coursework, is accepted as meeting UNR Med's chemistry prerequisite requirements.
UNR Med requires the AAMC PREview® exam and does not require the Acuity Insights Casper or Duet assessments. Registration for the PREview exam is available between April and October, and applicants must take the exam during the same application cycle in which they are applying. The PREview exam does not need to be completed before submitting the secondary application; however, it must be taken by the final October test date for the applicable admissions cycle.
Yes. Reapplicants may reuse up to two letters of recommendation from a previous application cycle, provided the letters were written no more than one year before the previous application submission date and continue to meet all letter requirements. At least one letter must be new and dated for the current application cycle.
No. UNR Med does not accept or consider letters of intent as part of the admissions process.

M.D. Interviews
UNR Med interviews are conducted in person and currently follow a panel interview format, not an MMI format.

We highly recommend practicing questions ahead of the interview day. This helps you to become comfortable with answering these types of questions and aids in identifying areas for growth in your responses.
AY27 interview format is Panel.
The dress code is professional attire. However, please ensure you wear comfortable shoes as we will be walking during various parts of the day.
Interviews are held from August through January.
Interviewers consist of physicians, community partners, faculty, staff and medical students.
Currently interviews are in-person only.
Prospective Students

Yes. The UNR Med Post-Baccalaureate (Post-Bac) Pathway Program is a two-year commitment designed for with a one-year academic curriculum consisting of upper-division science coursework and MCAT preparation. Following the academic year, a mandatory gap year focused on gaining experiences and preparation before matriculating to medical school.
No. UNR Med no longer offers a BS/MD program; however, undergraduate students at the University of Nevada, Reno may be interested in the Professions in Medicine Program offered through the Honors College.
No. UNR Med does not offer individualized pre-med or application advising. Applicants are encouraged to work with their academic and pre-professional advisors or explore resources available through the UNR Pre-Professional Advising Program.
