Salary Schedule

UNR Med deeply values our residents’ commitment by offering competitive salary and benefits packages. With no state income tax, Nevada residents can expect to receive a higher net salary compared to resident programs in other states.

Handbook

The Resident Handbook outlines the policies and procedures of the residency program. Residents are expected to comply with these policies to ensure that all residents are working in a fair, supportive and equitable environment.

Curriculum

The Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship curriculum combines general pulmonary disease management, both inpatient and outpatient, with multispecialty pulmonary care in cystic fibrosis, nontuberculosis mycobacterium and bronchiectasis, a multidisciplinary interstitial lung disease clinic, lung nodule clinic, sarcoid clinic, pleural disease clinic and pulmonary embolism clinic. Fellows will obtain experience managing patients in the medical ICU, cardiac ICU, Neuro ICU and Trauma ICU.

All fellows are expected to complete a research project within the allocated eight months, with opportunities for basic science, translational research and clinical research supported by the Clinical Research Office and the School of Medicine, as well as other schools at the University of Nevada, Reno. A newly renovated Simulation Program is also available for fellows to work with multidisciplinary teams on a range of critical care and natural disaster scenarios.

Application Requirements

  • Apply through ERAS, including submission of:
    • MSPE
    • Medical school transcripts
    • USMLE/COMLEX scores
    • 3 Letters of recommendation through ERAS including MSPE
    • Applications must be submitted by July 1st, 2026 to be considered.
  • Applicants must also be registered with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) to be considered.
  • USMLE scores
    • Step 3 score are reviewed.
    • No minimum score required.

International Medical Graduates (IMGs)

  • J‑1 visas are accepted (subject to institutional and program approval).
  • No minimum USMLE score required.
  • Two months of U.S. clinical experience is required.
  • There is no minimum time since medical school graduation; however, per institutional policy, applicants must not be more than five years from graduation.

Eligibility & Selection

  • Prior to appointment, fellows must have successfully completed an Internal Medicine residency in an ACGME-accredited program, an AOA-approved program, an ACGME International (ACGME-I) Advanced Specialty Accreditation program, or an RCPSC- or CFPC-accredited residency program in Canada.
    • Applicants who have not yet completed an Internal Medicine residency must have completed at least 3 years of internal medicine education prior to starting the fellowship as well as met all criteria in the “Fellow Eligibility Exception” provided by ACGME
      • An exceptionally qualified international graduate applicant who meets the following additional qualifications and conditions:
        • Evaluation by the program director and fellowship selection committee of the applicant’s suitability to enter the program, based o prior training and review of the summative evaluations of training in the core specialty
        • Review and approval of the applicant’s exceptional qualifications by GMEC
        • Verification of Educational Commission for ECFMG Certification
        • Applicants who are appointed to the fellowship program under Eligibility exception will have their performance evaluated by the Clinical Competency Committee within 12 weeks of matriculation.

A Faculty review committee evaluates each application based on:

  • Academic performance and aptitude
  • Professionalism, motivation, and integrity
  • Letters of recommendation and personal attributes

Interview Process

  • All interviews are conducted virtually for the entire recruitment cycle in alignment with APCCMPD recommendations.
  • Interviews are scheduled through Thalamus.
