NAVIGATE is a comprehensive program designed to provide early and effective treatment to individuals who have experienced a first episode of psychosis. The Psychopharmacology Treatmentis a part of the four clinic areas under NAVIGATE.  

The purpose of this clinic will be to provide expert consultation around medication treatment of psychosis and other co-occurring psychiatric disorders including substance abuse. Topics of discussion will include: evidence-based algorithms for choosing appropriate psychiatric medications for specific symptoms and disorders; management of side effects particularly metabolic syndrome; measurement of efficacy, and strategies to improve patient adherence. The "Hub" expert team will represent the disciplines of adult, child and adolescent psychiatry and primary care/endocrinology.

This program is funded by the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health through federal Mental Health Block grant funding.

Our Team

  • Jonathan Meyer, M.D.  (Psychiatry): Dr. Meyer is a Voluntary Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego, and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Meyer is a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Medical School, finished his adult psychiatry residency at LA County-USC Medical Center and completed fellowships there in Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry and Psychopharmacology Research. Dr. Meyer has teaching duties at UC San Diego and the Balboa Naval Medical Center in San Diego and is a psychopharmacology consultant to the California Department of State Hospitals, and to the first episode psychosis programs at Balboa Naval Medical Center in San Diego and in the State of Nevada.
  • Joshua Fitzgerald, M.D. (Psychiatry): Dr. Fitzgerald, M.D. is dual Board Certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and General Psychiatry. Dr. Fitzgerald is currently an Assistant Professor for the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He is the Acting Chair for Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program Director, and the Medical Director for UNR Med's SOAR Program for First Episode Psychosis. Dr. Fitzgerald also provides pediatric psychiatry consult-liaison services for Renown Children’s Hospital.
