Summary

Jennifer Bennett, PhD, MPH is Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and serves as the Director and Principal Investigator of the Pacific AIDS Education and Training Center-Nevada (PAETC-NV) in the Office of Statewide Initiatives at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med). Dr. Bennett directs a wide range of technical assistance, education, and capacity building services to HIV care organizations statewide. She oversees needs assessments, develops and implements program plans, and manages programming and evaluation. The goal of this work is to improve care and services provided to people living with HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Bennett also serves as Course Director for MED 610: Teaching in Medicine. This course provides fourth-year medical students with a range of teaching experiences, focusing on instructing first- and second-year medical students in taking complete patient histories and practicing physical exam skills. Also within the School of Medicine, Dr. Bennett is the founding Coordinator for the Scholarly Concentration in Medical Education. In this role, she provides opportunities for students to work with faculty mentors to assume a variety of teaching roles in order to enhance their teaching skills throughout their medical school experience.

Prior experiences include serving on the PA Program Planning Committee, teaching for the UNR School of Community Health Sciences (SCHS) and serving as the SCHS MPH Internship Coordinator, and serving as a UNR Med Clinical Problem Solving facilitator.

Dr. Bennett has also been active in a number of campus and community groups. She currently serves on the UNR Faculty Senate, is a past chair of the UNR Work, Life, Family Council, served on the UNR Intercultural Council, and has been involved with various community HIV service planning groups. She has held leadership roles in the Nevada Public Health Association, and participated as a scholar in the Great Basin Public Health Leadership Institute.
