Student Health and Counseling Services

In any emergency involving physical harm or a threat to life, please call 911 (9-911 from a campus phone) or contact the University of Nevada, Reno Police Department Dispatch at (775) 334-2677 immediately.

If you are experiencing a psychological crisis, you can call or walk into Counseling Services or the Med Den during normal business hours. Let the receptionist know you are requesting a same-day crisis appointment. A counselor will briefly meet with you to determine the best course of action (scheduling a same-day session with you, referring you to other resources, etc.).

Comprehensive Therapy Services for UNR Med Students

We understand the unique challenges faced by medical students and are dedicated to providing tailored support through a range of specialized therapy services. Our mission is to foster resilience, well-being and personal growth, ensuring that students not only excel in their academic pursuits but also thrive in their personal lives. Our comprehensive therapy offerings include treatment, ongoing care/maintenance check-ins and performance coaching.

Central Campus Counseling Services

Services are provided at the Pennington Student Achievement Center's Counseling Services Suite, 1.1 miles from the medical school classrooms, at no additional charge. Most students are allowed up to six sessions annually, with exceptions for higher-level care needs, and fee-based psychological testing for ADHD and learning disabilities. Professional mental health staff include: Licensed Clinical Psychologists, Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs/CPCs), Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors and Social Workers.

Central Campus Student Health Center

Services are provided in a building adjacent to UNR Med, offering accessible health care and education to all students. Professional mental health staff include: Psychiatrists: Available for psychiatric evaluations and medication management and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners: Available for physical and psychiatric evaluations and medication management.

UNR Med Learning and Wellness Team

Services at UNR Med focus exclusively on medical students. The Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Director of Student Affairs, and learning specialists provide ad hoc counseling. A licensed mental health clinician oversees a 1:1 counseling team and mental health psychoeducation programs, all at no additional charge to students. Professional mental health staff include: Licensed Mental Health Clinicians (MFTs & LPC). This team of the on-site Wellness Program Counselor and two off-site, independent contracted counselors work exclusively with UNR Med students on an unlimited basis with no maximum appointment count.
