Since UNR does not have an ophthalmology residency, it is advised that students planning on applying to ophthalmology residencies do an away rotation at an institution that has a residency program and where they would be interested in training.

• Research will always improve an application but it is not a requirement. It doesn’t have to be Ophthalmology research either. 
• Be prepared to talk about your work.                                                        

Personal Statement

• Demonstrate a genuine interest in Ophthalmology
• Describe why you want to pursue a career ophthalmology
• Include unique experiences, personal events and qualities that are relevant to the specialty

Letters of Recommendation

• Three (3) letters are recommended, a 4th can be from a research mentor
• A Chair’s/Clerkship Director letter should be included
• At least one letter from within the specialty
• Additional letters can be sent to programs directly outside of CAS if allowed by program                                                               

Application Timing

• Ophthalmology is an early Match. Match Results are out Mid-January
