Dr. Cotton was born in Austin, TX and raised in Dallas. Much to her Texas Longhorn family's horror, she attended the University of Oklahoma, where she cheered for the Sooners and received degrees in Classical Culture and Spanish. Shortly after graduation, she took a job as a distance learning high school Spanish teacher and taught kids all over the state of Texas how to conjugate verbs for two years. While this was great fun, she eventually turned her attention back toward her lifelong goal of becoming a physician. She attended medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, and this is also where she completed residency in Psychiatry and fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. While in Little Rock, she was an active member of the Little Rock Salsa community, and she often taught Latin dance to couples and groups. Her passion lies in teaching, which is why she pursued her first job out of training at UNR, where the position of Clerkship Director was available. Since moving to Reno in August 2019, she has fallen in love with the city and surrounding area as well as with UNR and its culture of diversity and inclusion. In her spare time, she loves cooking and baking, and she is always up to date on who is doing well on The Great British Baking Show. She lives with her husband and two dogs, Red and Kizzy. She also enjoys reading, refinishing old furniture, and painting mandalas on anything that happens to be laying around.
