    Research?

    • Emergency Medicine research experience is nice, but is not an absolute requirement.
    • Some research/scholarship is helpful for the University-based programs, but is optional in the Community-based programs.

    Letters of Recommendation

    • All students applying in Emergency Medicine receive a Standardized Letter of Evaluation (SLOE) from their rotation. Students can expect that many programs will wait to see two SLOEs before offering an interview. It is ideal to have two SLOEs by October 1st. 
    • Three (3) letters are recommended with 2 from within the specialty.
    • Letters from community-based physicians and/or research are OK for a fourth letter.
    • A Chair’s letter is not required.

    Application Timing

    • Programs begin reviewing applicants in Late September
    • Programs begin offering Interviews Early to mid-October
