  • Application Strategies

    Research:

    Yes, ideally in dermatology, projects available through physicians at the Skin Cancer and Dermatology Institute, consider a summer research program at academic center (ie UCSF)

    Letters of Recommendation: 

    Need strong letter from dermatology away rotation ( ideally program chair or director).

    Letter from dermatologist in Nevada if a lot of time spent with them during med school

    Surgery or IM letter

    At least two letters must be in dermatology

    Interviews:

    Apply broadly and go on every interview offered

    Practice interview techniques with community dermatologists or derm advisor prior to interview

    DO NOT EVER mention if applying to another specialty as backup

    Be very nice to everyone- the secretary who is scheduling will  likely be asked about applicants

    At the applicant dinner or reception, be nice and professional. Every step is part of the interview
