Yes. Since UNR Med does not have an ophthalmology residency, it is advised that students planning on applying to ophthalmology residencies do an away rotation at an institution that has a residency program and where they would be interested in training.

Research
- Research will always improve an application. It doesn’t have to be Ophthalmology research either.
- Be prepared to talk about your work.
Personal Statement
- Demonstrate a genuine interest in ophthalmology.
- Describe why you want to pursue a career ophthalmology.
- Include unique experiences, personal events and qualities that are relevant to the specialty.
- Review SFMatch and Aupo information on personal statement requirements.
Letters of Recommendation
- Three (3) letters are recommended, a fourth can be from a research mentor.
- A Chair’s/Clerkship Director letter should be included.
- At least one letter from within the specialty.
- Additional letters can be sent to programs directly outside of CAS if allowed by program.
