Summary

Julie hails from the East Coast where she did her undergraduate work at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. I attended the University of New England in Portland, Maine in 2000 where she completed her master's degree in physician assistant studies. I have been practicing as a PA since 2002 and have worked in various clinical settings. I joined the PA staff in the department of surgery at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Maryland in 2002 before moving to Reno, Nevada in 2004. In Reno, I worked for Nevada Pain and Spine in chronic pain management for two years, then joined Gastroenterology Consultants where I worked in gastroenterology and hepatology for over seven years. In 2014, I decided to return to her roots as a primary care PA and joined Dr. Diane Thomas, a family medicine physician in Sparks, Nevada.

My special interest while working in gastroenterology was in obesity management where I helped create the curriculum for "The Medical Weigh" weight loss program at GI Consultants. I delivered peer lecture presentations including presenting at the 2013 Nevada Obesity Forum.

Currently, I hold a leadership positions within the Nevada Academy of Physician Assistants as the President-Elect. I also am a member of the Washoe County Medical Society (WCMS), Nevada State Medical Association and the Allied Health Commission of the WCMS. In 2016, I received the Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants Award.
