Associate Professor, Medicine, Cardiology, CPR Training, Cardiac Arrest

Summary

As the director of the Toft Lab for CPR Equity, I lead efforts to identify and address barriers to CPR training for the public. The lab focuses on addressing gender and race disparities in CPR through novel educational strategies. In 2020, our team won an Emmy award for our engaging, interactive film to teach CPR in schools, HEART CLASS (www.heart-class.com). The Toft lab collaborated with Heart &Stroke Foundation of Canada to create 4 interactive CPR training films (English & French) featuring female victims, winning 3 prestigious WEBBY awards. This work became the cornerstone for the Toft lab’s current $2M AHA and NIH grant-funded work to create more engaging and effective game-based methods to teach CPR to the public and to save lives.
