Commitments To Residents

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) and the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) support the graduate medical education (GME) programs at UNR Med. NSHE and UNR are collectively dedicated to providing the education of medical students entering residency after graduation. These two authorities, NSHE and UNR, commit to:

  1. Selecting quality students for residency training through the National Resident Matching Program;
  2. Establishing employment rules and procedures based on the university regulating authorities that are supportive of residents and their training, and meet the Accreditation for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements;
  3. Informing residents about individual program requirements and educational goals;
  4. Establishing policies and procedures for the conduct of GME programs to meet ACGME institutional and program requirements;
  5. Ensuring that residents understand the critical role of professionalism and ethical behavior in medicine;
  6. Establishing agreements with participating clinical teaching sites;
  7. Interacting with healthcare training sites to maintain quality patient care;
  8. Assessing qualifications of the resident by evaluations, assessments, and standardized examinations; and
  9. Maintaining the financial stability and support of GME programs.
