Summary
My research interests center on understanding the mechanisms of viral replication, particularly on human herpesviruses and the human coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2. Human herpesviruses are large DNA viruses that establish lifelong persistent infections with sporadic reactivations, particularly in immunocompromised individuals. Kaposi's Sarcoma-Associated Herpesvirus (KSHV) and Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) are tumor viruses that encode oncogenic proteins, driving tumorigenesis by altering critical cellular pathways. Our laboratory employs a wide range of classic and cutting-edge approaches, such as single-molecule assays and next-generation sequencing, to investigate viral latency and reactivation, which are crucial to viral pathogenesis. We are also focused on understanding the replication mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 and other re-emerging viral pathogens, aiming to screen and develop effective antivirals. Additionally, we are interested in developing innovative cell-based assays to study viral pathogens and explore therapeutic interventions.
