Department of Neurology
The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine and Renown Health have joined forces to bring together the most advanced stroke and neurology care in the region through the Institute for Neurosciences. The Institute functions as the Department of Neurology for the School of Medicine, and provides the most innovative diagnostic and therapeutic services as well as teaching core neurology knowledge and skills to Nevada's future physicians. The Institute is dedicated to cutting-edge research aimed at advancing the discipline of neurology and providing state-of-the art treatments for neurological disorders while training residents and students on the most effective neurologic treatments and procedures.
Patients suffering from complex brain and nerve disorders including memory problems, stroke, migraines and epilepsy are given exceptional clinical care with the communication and support they need to improve their health. All of our doctors are skilled in treating neurological disorders and are the best resources to train and educate medical students, residents and fellows on revolutionary neuroscience medicine. Doctors educate students on how to exceed patient care expectations and to provide compassionate yet innovative medical support.
The physicians at the School of Medicine and Renown Health remain current on progressive research in the field of neurosciences and are continually developing new clinical trial treatment options. The Institute for Neurosciences is the only institute in Northern Nevada participating in clinical research. Neurology specialists have been active contributors to many exciting therapy developments including stroke prevention therapy, acute stroke therapy and Botox® for migraine prevention. What we do
Lead by some of the area's top neurologists, the Institute for Neurosciences conducts cutting-edge research studies involving new and potentially better ways of managing neurological disorders. We care for patients suffering from nerve and brain issues as a result of stroke, headache, epilepsy and other acute causes. We also monitor and develop treatment options for patients with memory and movement disorders such as Parkinson's Disease or Multiple Sclerosis. Our board-certified doctors, with additional training in stroke and headache medicine, can provide patients with advanced treatment options including t-PA (Tissue Plasminogen Activator) and Biplane Angiography to help prevent strokes.
Services include:
- Advanced technology for treatment options
- Clinical trial therapy opportunities
- Epilepsy management
- Headache management
- Movement and memory disorders management
- Neurophysiology and headache medicine
Many of our patients have the opportunity to participate in auspicious clinical trials. Patients who are eligible for participation in research may have the opportunity to receive an investigational therapy that is only available at a highly limited number of centers in the United States.
In addition, the Institute for Neurosciences offers telehealth via a 24/7 hotline for clinical coverage in remote areas of Nevada. Physicians in rural areas, as well as patients, can talk with our highly skilled neurology specialists to get the treatment and support they need from afar.
