Summary

I am interested in smooth muscle physiology particularly the role of interstitial cells in regulating motility in gastrointestinal sphincters. This interest began during my PhD studies while examining how tone is generated and maintained in the internal anal sphincter. I now have extended this work to include the lower esophageal sphincter where we examine the functional roles of interstitial cells and their spatial relationship to smooth muscle cells and nerves.
