M.D. Curricular Affairs

Evaluation and assessment

Curricular Affairs implements a comprehensive assessment plan for the undergraduate medical education program. We assess students in different phases of curriculum and improve the education experiences using end of block/rotation feedback.

Goals for the M.D. Program

Our M.D. program equips students with the knowledge, skills and values needed for exceptional patient-centered care. Our dedicated faculty foster a supportive learning environment that emphasizes evidence-based practice, cultural sensitivity and leadership opportunities, preparing students for successful medical careers.

Medical Education Program Objectives (MEPOs)

Our Medical Education Program Objectives (MEPOs) guide our efforts in cultivating the next generation of physicians. These objectives prioritize patient care, medical knowledge, interprofessional collaboration, lifelong learning, professionalism, diversity and inclusion, and effective communication, ensuring that our graduates are well-equipped to meet the needs of diverse patient populations.

Our guiding principles

Our guiding principles inform UNR Med’s undergraduate medical education curriculum. By focusing on integration, clinical context, hands-on experience and continuous improvement, we ensure our students are prepared to meet the health care needs of Nevadans.

Curriculum committees

Our curriculum committees strive for educational excellence through a cohesive medical student curriculum. The Medical Education Steering Committee (MESC) oversees the curriculum's design, management and evaluation, while the Years 1 & 2 Block Directors Committee and the Years 3 & 4 Clerkship and Electives Directors Committee manage curriculum delivery and assessment, addressing faculty and student concerns.

Affiliation agreements for medical education

Affiliation Agreements are crucial for UNR Med, outlining formal partnerships with clinical sites both locally and nationally to ensure high-quality medical student education. These agreements specify standards aligned with the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation requirements to support effective clinical training.

Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO)

UNR Med may offer a limited number of rotations for visiting students which will be posted in VSLO in late May.

Our team

The Curricular Affairs team is dedicated to the design, management and continuous improvement of the medical education curriculum, ensuring students receive a comprehensive and integrated learning experience.
