Curriculum Committees

The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine curriculum committees are dedicated to defining, achieving and maintaining educational excellence through a coherent and coordinated curriculum for medical students. These committees work collaboratively to uphold UNR Med's mission of educational excellence, ensuring that every aspect of the M.D. student curriculum is thoughtfully designed, delivered and evaluated.

The Medical Education Steering Committee (MESC) oversees the overall design, management, and evaluation of the curriculum, establishing policies and guiding decisions, while the Years 1 & 2 Block Directors' Committee and the Years 3 & 4 Clerkship and Electives Directors' Committee focus on delivering and assessing the curriculum in their respective phases, addressing faculty and student concerns to ensure seamless implementation and continuous improvement. 

Committees

Medical Education Steering Committee (MESC)

The MESC is the primary decision-making and policy-setting body for the undergraduate medical education curriculum. This committee holds comprehensive institutional responsibility for designing, managing and evaluating the curriculum to ensure alignment with educational goals and standards.

Years 1 & 2 Block Directors' Committee

The Years 1 & 2 Block Directors' Committee manages curriculum delivery and student assessment for the foundational years of medical education. It addresses faculty and student concerns specific to these early stages, ensuring a strong start to the medical education journey.

Years 3 & 4 Clerkship and Electives Directors' Committee

The Years 3 & 4 Clerkship and Electives Directors' Committee is responsible for overseeing curriculum delivery, student assessment and addressing issues related to the clinical years of medical education. The committee ensures that students are well-prepared for their clerkships and electives, facilitating a smooth transition into clinical practice.
