The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is committed to research, service and offering educational excellence to first and second-year medical students. As a community-based pathology department, we utilize local partnerships to provide clinical education and experience to medical students while broadening access to anatomic and clinical pathology services in Northern Nevada.

About us
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine provides clinical pathology services to hospitals across to rural Nevada, education to future health care workers, is the interface between biomedical and translational research and provides anatomic pathology clinical care to patients via our partner Renown Regional Medical Center.
Our department is committed to exploring new educational programs that contribute to the expansion of future physicians and health care workers serving the Northern Nevada community. This includes programs such as the Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) training program which is in high demand, especially in rural Nevada.

Our recent affiliation with Renown Health brings a wealth of expertise and resources from a large hospital laboratory providing extensive clinical and anatomic pathology services.
Our team
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine consists of a team of clinical and anatomic pathologists based on the UNR Med campus, Renown Regional Medical Center, the medical examiner’s office and in the community. We are actively involved in providing medical and Physician Assistant education, lab directorship services to rural Nevada hospitals and pathology services at Renown Regional Medical Center.
