| Specimen Identification |
Label tube with patient's first and last name, DOB and date/time of collection. Note acute or convalescent sample type.
- Acute: 3-10 days after onset of symptoms
- Convalescent: 2-3 weeks after acute specimen

| Special Instructions |
- Centrifuge and remove serum from clot as soon as possible before storing. Transfer separated serum into a labeled plastic transport tube.
- Sample may be stored up to 48 hours at 2-8° C
- If need to store longer than 48 hours, serum should be frozen at -20° C, CSF should be refrigerated
- Specimens with precipitate should be clarified by centrifugation
