Specimen Identification Label container with patient’s first name, last name, DOB and collection date and time
Special Instructions
  • First morning sputum is recommended
  • Indicate specimen source on requisition.
  • Include clinical diagnosis or relevant patient history on requisition.
Shipping Requirements
  1. Slide made on-site: Ship in cardboard container
  2. Sending sputum sample: Store and ship at refrigerated temperature 2-8o C. Transport to lab as soon as possible.

  • Inappropriate specimen transport
  • Inadequate sputum sample
  • Sample > 72 hours old
  • Mislabeled/Unlabeled sample
