Headshot of Stephanie King

Stephanie King, Ph.D., CCC-SLP

Assistant Professor, Speech Pathology and Audiology

Summary

Dr. King’s research centers on early language development in children with autism and other neurodevelopmental differences. Her work examines how child temperament, sensory systems, and parent factors, including stress, temperament, and responsive behaviors, interact to influence language acquisition in early childhood. Dr. King is particularly interested in understanding how these child and family characteristics shape developmental trajectories during the earliest stages of life, when intervention may have the greatest impact. Her research also explores the lived experiences of parents navigating and autism diagnosis, including access to and barriers to evidence-based interventions, with particular attention to systemic challenges faced by underserved populations. Through this work, Dr. King aims to generate findings that can be translated into best practices for early intervention and family-centered support.
