Professional Licensure Program Disclosures Guide

Per Federal Title 34.668.43 (a)(5)(v) & (c) the University must make certain disclosures regarding programs that lead to professional licensure or certification.

Which programs are required to make disclosures?

All programs that are designed or advertised to meet the educational requirements for a certification or licensure required to practice in a given field or occupation must make disclosures.

What disclosures are required?

Public Disclosures

Statement of whether the program meets education requirements for licensure in each state and territory is in a place accessible to prospective and current students.

How are UNR programs meeting these requirements?

Tables with determinations and contact information for licensing boards for each state are posted on program websites.

Direct Disclosures

Notices are sent directly to students if the program does not meet educational requirements for licensure, no determination has been made, the determination has changed or the student moves to another state.

How are UNR programs meeting these requirements?

Notices are sent to students via MyNevada upon admittance to program, change of determination or student relocation.

Process for Making Disclosures

  1. Meet: representatives from the department, program, and Provost’s Office meet to discuss programs leading to professional licenses, disclosure requirements, and plans to make disclosures. Template tables and pre-approved disclosure letter are provided.
  2. Research: designated program faculty and staff research educational requirements for licensure/certification for each state and territory.
  3. Make determinations: program faculty and staff determine whether the program meets the educational requirements for licensure in each state and territory.
  4. Complete table: program faculty and staff enter determinations for each state into a table.
  5. Meet again: representatives from the program and Provost’s Office meet to review table.
  6. Post table: program posts the table on the program website.
  7. Send direct disclosures: Provost’s Office sends initial disclosures to all students and upon admissions.
  8. Maintain: program reviews the table annually to ensure all information is accurate.

Making Determinations

Program faculty and staff must determine whether the program falls into one of three categories:

Meets Requirements

  • The program satisfies all educational requirements* for licensure or certification in a given state.
  • Upon completion of the program, a student can reasonably expect to have fulfilled the educational requirements for the corresponding license or certification to practice in a given state OR be eligible to sit for a required licensing exam.

Does Not Meet Requirements

  • The program DOES NOT satisfy all educational requirements* for licensure or certification in a given state.
  • A student CANNOT reasonably expect to have fulfilled the educational requirements* for the corresponding license or certification in a given state based solely upon the completion of the program OR would not be eligible to sit for a required licensing exam.

No Determination

  • No determination has been made as to whether the program meets all educational requirements* for licensure or certification in a given state.
  • This is a temporary designation. If the University currently serves, admits, or advertises to students in a state for which no determination has been made, a determination must be made as soon as possible.

*Educational requirements may vary by state and may include, but are not limited to, institutional accreditation status, course requirements, curricular standards, and quantity or type of internship/practicum experience. Any educational experiences expected to be completed after graduation from a program should not be considered (e.g. post-graduate clinical experience or state-provided diversity training).

**State reciprocity agreements/ comity licensure paths may be considered a pathway to licensure only if the reciprocity/comity licensure pathway will allow the student to be licensed and practice without additional education or prior work experience.

***Provisional licensure may be considered a pathway to licensure so long as a student may obtain provisional licensure and practice without additional education or prior work experience.
