Continuous Institutional Assessment

About us

Through a comprehensive institutional assessment plan, we collect and analyze data from students, faculty and external stakeholders to evaluate the effectiveness of our M.D. program. This feedback loop informs decision-making and drives continuous improvements to ensure the program meets its objectives and evolves with health care needs and educational standards, preparing students for success as physicians.

Key areas of institutional assessment

Data collection, analysis and dissemination

The CIA takes the lead on analysis and dissemination of data that spans multiple units, departments or functions and/or requires confidentiality preventing the data from being managed by the individual unit. The CIA develops dashboards that facilitate use of these data to inform decision making and quality improvement initiatives

Examples of data that the CIA manages include:

  • AAMC student surveys
  • Internal medical student survey
  • U.S. News and World Report
  • Employee diversity data

Access to the dashboards is restricted based on an individuals’ role and how they plan to use the data.

Policy oversight

The CIA currently leads UNR Med’s policy committee, orchestrating the collaboration between UNR Med leadership, various subject matter experts and faculty input to develop and update policies concerning students, faculty and staff.

Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) Accreditation

The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) has granted Accreditation-Full status to the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine sponsored by University of Nevada, Reno. Accreditation-Full is an accreditation status granted when a currently accredited program is in compliance with the LCME standards.

Accreditation remains in effect until the program closes or withdraws from the accreditation process or until accreditation is withdrawn for failure to comply with the standards.

Our next survey visit will be September 2025. They will evaluate our medical education program’s quality and compliance with national standards. As part of the accreditation process, we are engaging in a comprehensive Institutional Self-Study, which involves gathering feedback from students, faculty and staff to identify strengths and areas for improvement. This collaborative effort will help ensure continuous program development and alignment with the evolving needs of health care education.

The program’s accreditation status can be viewed on the LCME website.
