Mark Guiberson

Summary

Mark Guiberson, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, has received research funding from multiple National Institutes of Health mechanisms as well as a Multicultural Grant from the American Speech- Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). He joined the University of Nevada, Reno in 2025, following serving as Chair at the University of Wyoming and earlier faculty appointments at the University of Colorado, Boulder and the University of Northern Colorado.

He has served on several ASHA boards, steering committees, and working groups, contributing to national conversations on cultural competence and diversity in the field. Dr. Guiberson also played a key role in developing ASHA’s Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning Special Collection, a digital repository designed to support university educators in strengthening cultural competence within communication disorders curricula.

His scholarship includes early intervention practices, innovative service delivery for underserved communities, and strategies to advance cultural competence in graduate education and professional practice. He has served on ASHA’s Multicultural Issues Board and Academic Affairs Board and has contributed extensively as an editor, curating six special issues on multicultural topics. His research portfolio includes over 45 peer-reviewed publications and five book chapters, with a focus on dual language learners, Indigenous populations, and other culturally and linguistically diverse groups.

In 2024, he received ASHA’s Certificate of Recognition for Special Contributions in Multicultural Affairs for his work advancing cultural competence and addressing the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse populations. He also received the Editor’s Award from Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools for the article “Native American Caregiver- Child Shared Book Reading Interactions: A Descriptive Study and Integrative Review,” co- authored with Kyliah Ferris.
