    • According to the NRMP, general surgery applicants who match have an average of 2.6 research experiences and 3.3 abstracts.
    • Be prepared to talk about your work.

    Personal Statement

    • Demonstrate initiative and passion for the specialty.
    • Why do you want to become a  plastic surgeon?
    • Short and long-term vision for your career
    • If you want to do research, explain why and what you would like to investigate.

    Letters of Recommendation

    • Three (3) letters are required.
    • Surgery programs want to see letters from surgeons.
    • Ask for letters from prominent, recognized faculty members
    • A Chair’s letter is highly recommended and may be required by some programs                      

    Application Timing

    • Programs begin reviewing applicants as soon as ERAS opens
    • Programs begin offering Interviews October-November
